Please Help: MiroDC20 & RedHat Linux 6.1

Post by Seon L » Wed, 20 Oct 1999 04:00:00

Hello All,

Ive scoured the net looking for support for this video capture card -
the Miro DC20 (it uses a Zoran chipset).

Ive only gotten so far as finding beta drivers for the Zoran chipset
(but i believe it is a later chipset than the one in the DC20).

Can anyone help me install the DC20 into my linux system? Any pointers
would help greatly. Urls, tarfiles, anything at all...

Im at a loss here and I'd really prefer setting the card to run under
linux than off a windoze box.

TIA
Shake

There is no support, and probably never will be. This card is based on a
proprietary design, and the information needed for writing a driver is
not available.

Its not supported all that well under Windows either.

if you are really interested in a Linux video capture card, one place
makes
them

http://www.linuxmedialabs.com

Their card is based on the newer Zoran chipset and offers Linux support
and
a video editing program. ( I have not tried either)

1. RedHat 6.1 & Win98, please help!

RedHat 5.2 was very easy to setup. I have a 13G drive with Windows98 using
up
the first 10G. So when I installed RedHat 5.2 it was smart enough to let me
grab the last 3G as linux partitions and asked me if I would like to install
LILO or boot from a floppy. Since I didn't want to screw around moving my
Windows partitions (linux boot needs to be under 1023 cylinders) I choose to
create a boot floppy. The install did all of this for me by prompting me
through it.

Ok, so I now want to install RedHat 6.1. I didn't want to bother upgrading
so I blew away all Linux partitions and left the Windows partitions as they
were. So now I've got 3G of unallocated space at the end of my drive. The
problem is, when I try a custom install with RedHat 6.1 it will NOT let me
get pass the "partition creation" screen without creating a boot partition
on my hard drive. I don't want to boot from the hd, I want to boot from a
floppy. Why isn't there an option to create a boot floppy instead of
creating a boot partition? Looks like the only way to get 6.1 installed is
to screw around and shrink my Windows partition a little to make room for
the linux boot partition. Is there any way to get RH6.1 installed without
having to move my Windows partitions?

Brad.
