Read the hints at
http://www.fachschaften.uni-bielefeld.de/physik/leute/marc/X/
if you have 1024x768 nominal resolution.

ATI 3D Rage LT Pro, 2x AGP

Hi,

I have a MiTac MiNote 6020 with an ATI Rage LT Pro graphics chip (8MB,
14.1", 1024x768).

? http://www.eecs.umich.edu/~steveh/inspiron/
? http://www.uno.edu/~adamico/banshee/

My first attempt was to (using only S.u.S.E. supplied code) compile a
new kernel and set up a frame buffer device (XF86_FBDev). This was, for
me, a bad idea. It seemed straight forward, but . I missed something.

What finally worked were a standard kernel, the patched XF86_Mach64
server (from the links above) and the XF86Config file that is attached
to this mail. It was built using SAX (on an external CRT display). I
replaced the XF86_Mach64 server by renaming the original
(XF86_Mach64.original) and letting the patched version take it's place.

/Anders

You must not compile in the ATI Mach framebuffer support of the
Kernel 2.2 but rather use the VESA framebuffer support.
If I did the first on my Compaq Pres. 1675 the kernel locked
up at boot time, but the VESA support did the trick for
me together with the standard XFree86 3.3.3.1 server.
Thus I wonder if you had fallen into the same trap as I did.

Greets,
Mathias

1. ATI Rage 3D Pro Lt AGP 2x

I've a problem with Linux and althought I know this isn't your
problem, I hope you may help me.

At the end I've installed a Linux RedHat 6.0 but I'm not able to configure
X-server to work properly:
I've install Linux on a Compaq Notebook (Presario 1690), wich has "on-board"
an ATI Rage 3D Pro Lt (x2 AGP) ,... i think the chip used inside this video
card is "Mach64". Well, when I 've run Xconfigurator this model is not in
the LIST, I tried to configure the server with another model and with a
"Laptop 1024x768" for monitor, but after three flash (that means the first
part of the test, refer to the monitor, is OK) the last test show me a
distorted immage...happens for evry type of resolutions, becouse, in my
opinion the problem is in the video-card that is NOT supported.
Can you help me??

Thank you indeed
