Xircom CE3 RH 6.1 (Worked in RH 5.1)

Post by Steffen L. Norgre » Wed, 10 Nov 1999 04:00:00

I am trying to set up linux on a Toshiba 700CT laptop with a Xircom
CE3 10/100 Ethernet card.

The STRANGEST thing is that I have no problems at all if I install RH
5.1 (Which I would rather not use)

I am having a gread deal of problems getting my Xircom CE3 to work
with RH 6.1, (Delaying Initialization [failed]), I've recompiled with the
latest pcmcia package, downloaded new drivers, implemented patches,
excluded irq's and memory ranges. No matter what I do I cannot get it to
network.

If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks,

Steffen L. Norgren

Hey there

I've got a Xircom RE-10 working just fine with RH 6.1. The Xircom pcmcia
driver should work for your card too. What sounds do you hear while pcmcia
is initalizing? Does it give you a low beep or two high ones? If it's a low
one, you might want to check your /etc/pcmcia/config file and see if there's
an entry for your card in there - if not you can make one yourself - that
worked for me. If you have any more specific questions, please mail me cause
I seldomly read this newsgroup...

I've exactly the same card as yours and it has been working fine. I'm running RH
6.1 too, and yes I've got the 'Delaying Initialization  [Failed]' message too
but it actually not an error. The pcmcia script was run after that and my
network is up and running after the pcmcia script got executed. May be you can
post some log information that was written into your /var/log/messages to see if
there is something wrong with the IRQ etc.. and uhh, did you configure
/etc/pcmcia/network.opts (if you've replaced RH 6.1 pcmcia package with the
latest one)?

Could you send me a sample /etc/pcmcia/config and config.opts file so I
can try. I am new to all this admin stuff and I work better when examples.

Thanks,

SLN
