I wanted to help but when I looked at my own configuration I got
confused.
in /usr/X11R6/bin/ I have
bash-2.00$ pwd
/usr/X11R6/bin
bash-2.00$ ls -la X*
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root root 4344 Jul 17 1997 X
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1295688 Jan 18 1997 XF86_EGA
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1891828 Jul 17 1997 XF86_Mach64
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 27499 Jul 17 1997 Xmark
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 2175524 Jun 20 1997 Xnest
bash-2.00$
in /etc/X11/xdm/xservers I have
# X servers are automatically added to this file by the Debian
# xbase and xserver configuration scripts.
:0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -bpp 32
so does that mean I'm not using the correct driver?
