mounting win95 drive

I have mounted a windows 95 drive on a RH 7.2 system. The system reports
that I have a drive hdc. On it I have hdc1 and hdc2. The second partion
hdc 2 consists of hdc5 to hdc8.
I have done
                    mkfs -t vfat /dev/hdc1
and also     mkfs -t vfat  /dev/hdc5
                    mkfs -t vfat  /dev/hdc6
                    mkfs -t vfat  /dev/hdc7
                    mkfs -t vfat  /dev/hdc8
Then I did
                    mkdir /mnt/hdc1
                    mkdir/mnt/hdc5
                    mkdir/mnt/hdc6
                    mkdir/mnt/hdc7
                    mkdir/mnt/hdc8

When I mount these partitions (mount -t vfat /dev/hdc1 /mnt/hdc1)I see
it is  mounted but there is nothing in there when I look in the mount
point (eg ls /mnt/hdc1) I know there is somthing on the hard drive and
the system show that there is data on it.
What am I doing wrong?

umm, when you issued the command mkfs i believe you format the drives.  so
if you had data there it is not easily accessible anymore (ie you need a
rescue guru to help you)

You just wiped the Windows partitions when you did an mkfs.
Hint: mkfs stands for MaKe FileSystem, and the Windows equivalent
is called format.
