Does Linux support PC104 based systems with SSD disks?

Post by Dr. Sólyom Andrá » Wed, 23 Jun 1999 04:00:00

The subject says it all.
I am working on a project for a BIG company and I want to persuade them to use
Linux instead of DOS for their PC104 embedded system if that is possible. The
hardware now has a 486 processor, 32 Mb RAM and a 32 Mb flash (SSD) disk. It
presently run DOS (so most of that RAM is wasted...)

Any information would be very helpful!

Question #7: How Can I Make Linux More Like Windows?

'Hmmm. Rebuild the kernel to use every memory-hogging feature you can find.
Reboot every
couple of days whether you need to or not. And every 18 months or so, send a
check for $99
to Bill Gates. That should do the trick.' (CNET - 10 questions about Linux

What kind of SSD are you using? I've had good luck with SanDisk and Linux.

Which PC104 card? And what IO cards (some are hard to find drivers for).

Your system is huge, much more than you need for a nice, embedded Linux.
Definitely check out the "matchbox" link.

1. Some problem while installing PC104 LPT 2COM232 card on PC104 module (linux debian woody 3.0)

Hi,

I have to create a program using 3 port RS232. But on my PC104 card , there
is only 2 port ( /dev/ttyS0 & /dev/ttyS1)

So I decided to put an extension with 2 port RS232.

When I boot, the 4 ports are detected , but port 3 and port 4 don't work.

It means when I put my device on the 2 first ports ,It works but on the 2
last ports it doesn't work.

I have modified the file serial.conf (into /etc) without success.

Is there anyone able to help me because I don't know what to do ?

Thks.

Fred.
