Cannot play Audio CD

Hi,

Recently, I have installed Redhat 7.1 on my laptop
computer.
I find that it cannot play audio CD.

I have checked with Win98 setting. The audio
driver is OPL3-SAX WDM driver.

When I boot to Redhat Linux, the messages [dmesg]
are as follow:
****
opl3sa2: ISA PnP activated failed
opl3sa2: No cards found
opl3sa2: 0 PnP card(s) found.
****

After I login GOMONE as root, an error message appears
***
couldn't open mixer /dev/mixer
***

I have used [setup] to config the soundcard.
It looks like that it can detect & match the
ISAPNP sound card.
***
A ISAPNP sound card was found in your system.
The detalis are:
Model Yamaha OPL3-SAX Audio
System unknown.
***

But it fails to play any sound effect
***
Unable to play Audio
An error occurred opening /dev/audio
***

I have follow the config of Win98
such that the same audio setting is done in
Linux. But no use, still cannot play any
sound effect as before.
***
I/O   0X530
IRQ  5
DMA1  0
DMA2  1
MPU I/O  0X300
Control I/O 0X370
***

When I logout & reset, another error message
appears as follow:
***
error opening mixer
saving mixer settings: modprobe: modprobe: can't
locate module sound-services-0.0 [failed]
***

How can I fix the problem?

Thx

Cannot play Audio CD

Photon,

That looks like the driver, but it isn't loading. ISA PnP doesn't seem to
be working either. Couple of things you can try: 1) go into your BIOS and
if there's an option that says "Plug'n'Play OS", set it to No/Off -- that
way the BIOS itself will configure the devices, rather than leaving it to
the OS; 2) Go back to Win98 and get all the settings for the card -- IO
port, IRQ, DMA etc. In Linux, use those as command line options when
loading the driver.

Your kernel source will give you the command line you need to use. Looks
like: modprobe opl3sa2=<io>,<irq>,<dma>,<dma2>,<mssio>,<mpuio>

Cheers
Simon

1. CD-RW cannot play audio CD

Greetings! After two week's work, I have made the Linux
box work as I want. The only 'blocking' problem, if any,
is that the XMMS/KsCD won't play audio CD from the CD-RW.

I use realpayer and it works fine. I use CD-RW for CD-ROM
or cd record and it works fine too. sndconfig works fine.

In the fstab:
/dev/cdrom  /mnt/cdrom  iso9660 noauto,owner,kudzu,ro 0 0
ls -l /dev/cdrom:
lrwxrwxrwx  1 root  root 4  2  7 23:07 /dev/cdrom -> scd0

No sound could be heard from both the speaker or the
earphone connected to the CD-RW drive's front jacket.

I checked the small cable connection from CD-RW to Sound
Blaster Live 5.1 card: should be OK.

What could be wrong? Your helps are greatly appreciated.
