NexStor (NXT-92) PCI SCSI card not working?

Post by Peter Cha » Wed, 08 May 1996 04:00:00

Hi,

I have the above card (a NCR 53c810 based host adaptor) on the 3rd slot of
a Asustek mb (PVI-486SP3).

After downloading the newish NCR53c7,8xx driver from tsx-11 (rel 16),
reading the howto and hacking in "irq = 9" in pci_init() plus setting the
IRQ for PCI slot 3 to 9, I recompile the kernel (1.2.13 plus elf patch).
So it now works!

But using xcd to play a cdrom for about 10mins, the external player grinds
to a halt and won't play again.

Here's the log from messages (suitably edited and trimmed):

NexStor (NXT-92) PCI SCSI card not working?

Your hardware (one or more of the mainboard, a card in it, cache RAM,
SIMMs, etc) is defective and/or misconfigured.

Quote:> scsi0 : illegal instruction
> scsi0 : DCMD|DBC=0x874f7265, DSA=0x5a1e8 (virt 0x0005a1e8)

                   ^^^^^^^^^^

Your SCSI chip read this value from memory

Quote:> 0x1d2ea8 (virt 0x001d2ea8) : 0x800b0000 0x001d2ec8 (virt 0x001d2ec8)

                               ^^^^^^^^^^
when this value was actually stored there.

Playing with DRAM refresh rate, switching off "GAT" mode, disabling
PCI write posting, etc. may make things reliable.  Otherwise, it's
hardware :-(

1. Support for NexStor NXT-92/93 SCSI controller

Does anyone know how to find or create a scsi driver for a NexStor
SCSI controller?  This might be a SCSI-1 controller.  I am trying to
put Linux on a legacy machine, and I hope there is some way that this
controller can be supported.  Thanks for your help.
