Sanyo 4X CD-ROM SCSI drives

I've seen this bare CD-ROM drive for as little as $185, new, which is
a good $100 less than the other brands (Toshiba, NEC, etc).

What's the scoop on this thing?  Why is it so much cheaper?

I know that a Sanyo 2X CD-ROM "SCSI" model turned out to be not quite
SCSI standard.  So what gives?

Bought one this weekend at NCA for $185. No cables, they didn't even have
the right audio cable there to buy. However, found a universal cagle at
FRY's.

Set it up in my system with a PAS16 and downloaded updated drivers from
MV BBS. So far everything runs great. However, I have only run the
Games-Platinum CD that came free with purchase.
