Hi,
I am trying to get Linux running on a notebook with an S3 Virge/MX 4MB
video card. Whenever I start XF86_S3V or XF86_S3, I get the message
"unknown S3 chipset" although the X documentation says it supports
Virge/MX (86C260).
SuperProbe says "Chipset: S3 (chipset unknown) (Port probed) Signature
data: e18c0302, Memory: 8192 Kbytes".
Using XF86_SVGA does not help very much because it starts only in
320x200 mode.
Using "sis86c205" as the "Chipset" setting helps a little bit: X starts
in 1024x768 mode but the graphics are totally corrupted.
I tried "s3_virge" and "s3_svga" as chipset but XF86_SVGA tells me that
both are invalid chipsets -- although XF86_SVGA -showconfig shows these
two...
I am running XFree86 3.3.2.
With Windows NT 4 the card runs with 1024x768x65536.
Any help for solving this problem would be greatly appreciated.
