Linux Email Server Stops Uncontrolled

Do need help urgently with this one.
We have just installed an email server running linux. The server will lock
up after changing periods of time and needs to be rebooted to work again.
Have changed all hardware except for the hard drive and still has not fixed
the problem. Any ideas?

your email is bereft of usefull information; what distribution are you
using ; what is the mail server ; what hardware are you using? have you
customised your distibution in any way?

With the answers to the above questions people might be able to be of
more assistance.

..you may want to ssh into the box and leave a
'tail -f /var/log/messages' running, a ssh session typically
survives longer than the console, and may yield info now lost.

..one more ssh session may also help you recover the box, rather
than reboot it, rebooting does not fix anything.

Scenarios always come in sets of three:
best case, worst case, and just in case.

1. Adding Email Accounts Linux Email Server

Our company has been without an "email administrator" for over a month,
and I need instructions for adding an email account on our domain, as

We have a dedicated email server (on the Linux 2.0.0 OS).  I'm not sure
if there is a specific program running on it for email handling; if
there is, i think it is called "Mail."  I have figured out very basic
maneuvers-- navigating to the /home directory, where all the user
folders exist.  I've added a folder there whose name corresponds with
the name on the new account I want to add.  I know the root password.

I would greately appreciate any insights on this.
Sincerely,
Rithy
