NEC SCSI CD-ROM drive CDR-210 rev. 1.0 is not recognized

Hi, I'm running Linux kernel 1.2.13 on Toshiba Laptop T2400CT, which
has Adaptec AHA-6360 SCSI controler.

It worked fine when I connect it to Apple SCSI CD-ROM drive 300e,
which uses Panasonic/Matushita drive, however, the kernel doesn't
recognize NEC CDR-210. It would be great if any of you know how to get
around. SCSI-Howto saids any CD-ROM drive having 512-2048 block size
should work.... BTW, that NEC drive works under DOS/Windows. I needed
to remove the drivers for Apple CD-ROM drive from config.sys first,
though.

Below, I have attached portions of the boot messages with and without
CD-ROM drive connected.

1. NEC CDR-210 recognized but not usable -- Help!

Hello Linux community:

I have just obtained a brand new NEC CDR-210 cd-rom reader. I have
connected it to my Proaudio Spectrum 16 scsi port. Linux recognizes the
existance of the PAS scsi port and the existance of the NEC CDR-210 ( as
per all the messages during bootup ). Yet, I cannot access the cd-rom
reader with any of the programs I have on my system.

For example,  I try to activate workman in X and it reports that there is
no cd-rom available. Other programs I have tried respond likewise.

Are there any Linux users out there who have a similar setup that is
working? Would you like to share any relevant details with me?
( wink wink, nudge nudge, say no more, say no more.... )

PS: if I may inquire, what must I do to Linux to make my PAS 16
manipulate audio information such as .wav and .au files ?
