HP Scanjet 5300C and SUSE 10.1

Post by Alberto Garcia Baladi » Mon, 29 May 2006 03:57:45

Hello. This scanner (Hewlett-Packard Scanjet 5300c) is fully supported by
SANE and was working perfectly with SuSE 10.0. Now, with 10.1, it does not
work at all. sane-find-scanner and lsusb detect it, but not Avision driver
from SANE. The output of dmesg indicates an error in configuration at he
kernel level. I am very upset with this problem: After years of
workarounds starting with SUSE 8.2, YaST was able to install the scanner
smoothly in 9.3 and 10.0. Now I am at the beginning again. I posted this in
Novell and other SUSE forums, but nobody replied:

No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

I gave up trying to get SANE to work with that model,
I run Vuescan, it works great.

Vuescan does not detect the scanner, the same as SANE; I continue thinking
that the problem is at the kernel level, perhaps in ehci_hcd module.

1. /etc/resolv.conf in SUSE 10.1 (2.6.16.13-4-smp)

Due to my broadbang provider going through a sticky patch, I have
discovered that my system is using only the first nameserver in
/etc/resolv.conf.  If the reply is a non-authoritative does not
exist, it doesn't try the others.

Does anyone recognise this, and preferably know what to do about it?

Regards,
Nick Maclaren.
