HP CDWriter+ 9200 (SCSI) - CDWriting is fine, cannot mount normal CD

Hi Everybody,

I've a SCSI HP CDWriter+ 9200 Series cdwriter. The CD writing works
fine and i'm able to mount the cd's on other systems including both
linux and windows.

But I'm unable to use this cdwriter as a normal cd drive.  I remember
i used to be able use it as a normal cd drive.

I'm not sure what i've changed other than using a newer kernel.  I've
all the options enabled : e.g. generic SCSI support, SCSI CD support
etc. ..so i'm quite sure it's not a problem with not selecting the
right options.

I'm including relevant sections from my config file FYI.
Here's the output from uname:
   Linux lenny 2.4.9 #1 Tue Feb 19 18:14:02 IST 2002 i686 unknown

Here's the error i get when i try to mount any CD

1. scsi cdwriter not on /proc/scsi/scsi

I've a scsi cdwriter that shows up in the BIOS before bootup but doesn't
appear in the linux booting procedure, nor is it in /proc/scsi/scsi.
However, as soon as I run "cdrecord -scanbus" it is easily found and
/proc/scsi/scsi is correctly updated, and then I can mount cd's in the
cdwriter drive etc. It's a minor inconvenience, but it just puzzles me
why the system doesn't find it when booting. Any ideas?
thanks,
Mark

p.s. I posted here last week for some help about setting the cdwriter
up. Many thanks to those who helped.
