Jumper settings for cards needed!

Post by <james.alexan.. » Sun, 26 Jul 1998 04:00:00

Greetings & Salivations.

I've got a problem.  Well make that 2 problems.  In setting up 2 very
basic Linux machines (486sx & 386) I've been assembling from odds & ends
I've run across a couple cards that I can't find jumper/dipswitch
settings for anywhere.  One is a basic ISA bus multi IO card (2 serial,
parallel, fdc & ide) which has no manufacturer name silk screeen
anywhere, only a label that reads "MT-203" and the other is a Pure Data
Ltd ethernet 10base-T card model # PDI7023.  I'd love to know how to set
these up so I can get my linux machines up and running.

As I said, I've exhausted *EVERY* source I can find trying to get this
info.  I'm bordering on desparate.

thanx,
James (VE3SSQ).

If you want to spend some time, you can play jumper lottery :-)
Change jumper settings one at a time and watch BIOS error messages,
/proc/* and so on. Because the jumpers are mostly independent from
each other there are not so much possibilities. But you have to live
with the risk of damaging something.

I did it as my IDE+COM+LPT card gave smoke signals. I now have four
serial and three parallel connectors but only one working serial and
one parallel port.

My first guess would be NE2000.

1. need WD8003 card jumper settings

I'm currently setting up TCP/IP and just noticed that the WD8003 card
didn't come with a manual (it was used). Could someone send me the
jumper settings needed for the Linux TCP/IP driver? The ones on the
card seem to be pretty close, it recognizes it, but I get timeout
errors when I do anything that would send stuff over the ethernet.
