Can't mount CDROM drive

Can't mount CDROM drive

Post by Chin Yew Tuc » Fri, 17 Sep 1999 04:00:00

When I type :" mount -t iso9660 /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom"

Redhat 5.2 returned the error msg : "mount: /dev/cdrom is not a valid block
                                     device"

I tried mounting the floppy drive, it worked. Can anybody help me to solve
this problem ? Thank you.

regards
Chin

Can't mount CDROM drive

Try instead as root:
mount /dev/hdc /mnt/cdrom
assuming hdc is the name of your device
if you do not know it type
dmesg and look at the line written when linux installs your cdrom you should
see something like hdc , hdd , ....
Cheers

1. mount error: mount only root can mount /dev/cdrom on cdrom

"That should do it.  I hope this was not to long an explaination, but
"I want you to have a fell for what you are doing before doing it.

"Now as to why...
"Most multitasking multiuser Operation system do not let users
"access the mount command.  Linux makes it possible for users
"to use the command, but doesn't give the privilage to automatically.
"Root has to set the priv on a per device basis.

... oh wow.  that was great.  thanks ...

"it's not what you see ,
 but in stead notice."
