Opinions on NEC Superscript 610/660 Laser printers

Post by Payman Arabsha » Thu, 19 Sep 1996 04:00:00

I would greatly appreciate hearing from anybody who has any of
the following printers up and running nicely under Linux:

        - NEC Superscript 610, 610 plus         300dpi
        - NEC Superscript 660                   600dpi
        - NEC Superscript 660i                  600dpi

Of these, only the last one has its own processor, the first two
use the computer's CPU (should I be concerned about this?)

Memory in all can be expanded using industry standard SIMMS, which
is nice. Right now ther are $50-$100 rebates on these printers here
in the US as well.

They are all GDI/PCL 4.5/PCL 5e printers with postscript from Windows
95 only (or via ghostscript I suppose). Will postscript come out in
300 dpi in the 600dpi printers?

Any opinions about overall performance, reliability, ease of setup,
etc will be appreciated.

Many thanks

1. Any one use NEC SuperScript 660 or 860 printer with Linux??

Anyone has experience with the NEC SuperScript 660 or 860 printer??

The 660 mode is 6 ppm model and support PCL5 & Postscript 2 language,
but I was told that, it must be run  under Windows 95 only to work with
PS2 language.. I need to verify on this..

The 860 model is a faster one (8 ppm) and supports PCL4 only, it doesn't
support PS2 language.  I want to find out if this model run under
