1. DIAMOND STEALTH 64 VIDEO VRAM PCI

There was a thread or two recently about the use of the Diamond Stealth 64
Video VRAM PCI card with Solaris 2.4 x86. I lost the thread so thought
I'd start a new one ...

I purchased one of these cards recently and read with interest reports
on it not working with solaris 2.4 x86. True enough I could not get
it to work for love nor money with DU.8, not even in standard VGA mode.

Sunsoft UK reported that Sunsoft US were aware of a problem with the driver
for the card (re S3 968 chipset).

Hmmmm.....

Sunsoft advised me to try using a _different_ driver with the card, either :

   Number nine 9fx motion 771
or STB velocity 64V

I did and .... it worked.

I recently took delivery of 5 new P90's and proceeded to install solaris :
and remembered that I had specified the same card in them, so used the
number nine driver suggested. IT DIDNT WORK !!!

Neither did the STB ... I decided to be perverse and try the Diamond Stealth
driver intended for the card .... and ... it .... worked ....

There are several versions of this card about, one of which works with the
intended driver, and one which doesn't but does with other drivers.

Bottom line :

If you've got one of these cards check out the RAMDAC chip :

RAMDAC = IBM 37RGB526CF22 26HZ335 9314 PALETTE DAC  19522000VA PQ =
ALTERNATE DRIVERS.

RAMDAC = TI VIDEO TVP3026-220PCE 5089402 9521BN = THE INTENDED DRIVER.

Sunsoft are working on a driver for the latest revision of the card.
