Edit your /etc/XF86Config and add the following line to the Section
"Screen"
of the X server that you are using:

DefaultColorDepth    32

I am using the SVGA server, so my entry looks like this:

Section "Screen"
   Driver          "SVGA"
   Device          "Matrox MII"
   Monitor         "Ergo1600"
   DefaultColorDepth 32
   BlankTime       0
   SuspendTime     0
   OffTime         0
   SubSection "Display"
      Depth        8
   ...
   EndSection

I have not included the entire definition.

Good Luck.

I refer you to my post of 4 days ago, message ID

X-server?
:
: From command line:
:
:   startx -- -bpp ??
:
: Or from xdm if you're using it (in /etc/X11/xdm/Xservers):
:  ...
:   :0 local /usr/X11R6/bin/X -bpp ??
:
: Or from the config file (with XFree86 - don't know about MetroX -
: /etc/XF86Config):
:  ...
:   Section "Screen"
:  ...
:       DefaultColorDepth ??
:  ...
:
: where ?? is the bit depth you want - 8, 16, 32, etc. (32 == 24-bit
color
: but more efficient speed-wise)

1. Solaris 9 installed with 32 & 64 bit supports but boots in 32 bit mode

Hi every one,

I have installed Solaris 9 on a Sun Sparc E220R. When I installed, it asked
me whether you want 32 bit or 64/32 bit support. I select 32/64 bit support
and I was assuming that it will boot in 64 bit, but when system booted after
the installation, it was in 32 bit mode.

Can I force the system to boot in 64 bit mode or there is any other way ...

Please advise.

Regards and thanks in advance for the advise.
