With X it will be a tight squeeze, but might work.  See
http://www.sunsetsystems.com/tip-lowmem.html for a description of
what I did with a similar machine.

Hi, I read some articles about linux, more specificly about it not
requiring a very powerful machine to function with, and I began to geet
interested. I own a 386 laptop (that was put asside) with 6Mb RAM, and
85Mb HD that I would like to know if there is any possibility of
instaling linux with x-windows system on it.
If there is anyone who has done something like this or can give me a
solution I would apreciate it.

Thax a lot.

Lika;

I would say the chances are slim.    Look on any of the Laptop support
pages for more info.    The thing to look out for on the older Laptops are
non standard chipsets or chipsets that are not fully supported.     In any
event the ram alotment is to small.

This may be a nice machine to run in command line mode.     If you go this
route look around for one of the slimed down versions of Linux.    You
could also try to slim down a version of Linux yourself, but for a Laptop
this old I would not put alot of effort into it.

Not enough memory or CPU power to run X without dragging badly, IMHO.
You can still run text-based apps just fine, ie. LYNX for the web, PINE
for email, plenty of text editors/word processors, etc....
