And remember, always try to buy products whose manufacturers support
Linux. I don't have a scanner yet, but I already know not to buy a Microtek.

1. Flatbed Scanner- which have a Linux driver?
Mustek, HP ScanJet and UMax scanners are all supported by the SANE project,
which can (in turn) interface to the GIMP.
I've found that the HP ScanJet 5p I have gives (surprisingly) good results,
but what you use will depend on what the scans are for.
