Dumb USB Serial Question

Dumb USB Serial Question

I've installed a Belkin F5U102x2 which is a 3 port hub plus serial/parallel.

The kernel recognizes it as:

Quote:> Dec 28 21:37:18 pcdvd kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1, assigned device number 7
> Dec 28 21:37:18 pcdvd kernel: hub.c: USB hub found
> Dec 28 21:37:18 pcdvd kernel: hub.c: 5 ports detected
> Dec 28 21:37:18 pcdvd kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1/5, assigned device number 8
> Dec 28 21:37:18 pcdvd kernel: printer.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 8 if 0 alt 1 proto 2 vid 0x0711 pid 0x0300
> Dec 28 21:37:19 pcdvd kernel: hub.c: USB new device connect on bus1/1/4, assigned device number 9
> Dec 28 21:37:19 pcdvd kernel: usbserial.c: MCT/Sitecom USB-RS232 converter detected
> Dec 28 21:37:19 pcdvd kernel: usbserial.c: MCT/Sitecom USB-RS232 converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs)
> Dec 28 21:37:21 pcdvd /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup usbcore for USB product 4cc/1122/110
> Dec 28 21:37:21 pcdvd /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup usbcore for USB product 4cc/1122/110
> Dec 28 21:37:21 pcdvd /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup printer for USB product 711/300/104
> Dec 28 21:37:22 pcdvd /etc/hotplug/usb.agent: Setup mct_u232 for USB product 711/230/102

Yet, when I want to see the serial status I get this error:

Cannot get serial info: Invalid argument

The setserial command seems to work fine with regular UARTS.

Is this suppose to work with USB serial?

This is a RH7.3 stock system.

1. ATEN USB Serial vs Trip Lite USB Serial (UC232A)

Hello,

I am having a bit of a problem with the Tripplite usb-to-serial
converter under linux.  This is the same *model* as the ATEN USB model,
however the Tripp lite does not work because (I think) the vendor ID
does not agree with with the driver that is known to work with the ATEN
linux driver (pl2303.o - Prolific PL2303 USB to Serial Port Adapter).  I
have tried hacking the module to fit the product ID on the Triplite but
I still cannot get this to work.  BTW, I know the Tripplite works under
Windows.  Any help would be much appreciative.  Again I would like to
stress that these two model identical. Below is a list of vendor/product
id info I get when I plug in eache adapter in.

Manufacturer Vendor/Product ID
ATEN         0X557/0X2008
TRIPPLITE    0X2478/0X2008

Thanks,

Nick
