1. HELP 1,2GB EIDE HD with old 386
I need help, I have an old 386 which was given to me and I have
absolutely no documentation about it. I also have a 1,2GB EIDE HD
(Conner CFS1275A) which I'd like to put into my 386 for use with
Linux. I'm currently using Linux from a 125MB Seagate HD.
I've tried many settings in the BIOS, but it never worked. When the PC
boots, it waits for about 1 minute, then it says : "D: disk failure"
or "HDD controller failure", and "Press <F1> to resume"
If I press F1 and boot Linux from my 125MB disk, when it tries to talk
to the 1,2GB drive, it says :
hdb: DRDY error: status = 0x00 { }
hdb: DRDY error: status = 0x00 { }
hdb: DRDY error: status = 0x00 { }
hdb: DRDY error: status = 0x00 { }
ide0: do_ide_reset: success
hdb: DRDY error: status = 0x00 { }
hdb: DRDY error: status = 0x00 { }
hdb: DRDY error: status = 0x00 { }
hdb: DRDY error: status = 0x00 { }
ide0: do_ide_reset: success
hdb: DRDY error: status = 0x00 { }
end_request: I/O error, dev 0340, sector 0
hdb: unexpected_intr: status=0x00 { }
unable to read partition table of device 0340
Normally, the 125MB HD is the master and the 1,2GB one the slave. I've
tried to reverse this, but I can't even boot in this case.
Is there a chance that it would work with a new HD controller ?
Thanks in advance for any help.
