This is correct, it dosen't indicate they are supported. However the 560 at
least works for me.

The "Linux Printing HOWTO" doc recently posted doesn't indicate that
the HP 540 and 560C printers are supported.  Is this correct or is the
doc just out of date?

my dj560 works for me too.  I use the djscript (I don't remember where I
found it at) and after fiddling a bit with the command lines, prints
wonderfully.  Mind you, all I print is simple readme's and text files,
I've not explored the world of 'tex'.  <brrrrrr> <shrivels in fear> <G>

The HP 540 works fine for me as well, I just installed apsfilter and
voila, auto-detection and printing of postscript, dvi and ascii docs.
It's a great system.

The doc is severely out-of-date.  The maintainers do update it from time
to time, but they don't always go over it with a fine tooth comb looking
for stuff that's out-of-date.  (Can't say I blame them, they must have
blury eyes from looking at the same text for so long.)  They do try though.

1. Need HP 540 printer driver

Ghostscript is what you need.  It takes Postscript files and converts
them to "printer language"  You also need a set of programs that can
turn whatever you may have to Postscript.

There is another program called
"Magicfilter-1.2.tar".  Look for it at sunsite.  It makes setting up
a printer real easy.  With this you can just type "lp foo.gif" and it
will figure out how to do the required conversions.
