*** HELP *** ATI 3D PRO TURBO PC2TV + 8MB SGRAM

Post by super.. » Wed, 02 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Hi,
I have an ATI 3D Pro Turbo PC2TV video card with 8 MB of SGRAM.  I also
have RedHat Linux version 4.2.  I am trying to install X Server.  I know

that Metro X (the commercial X Server that comes with the Redhat
distribution) does not support this card yet.  My only hope, now, is
that XFree86 has a driver for my card.
Does someone have any suggestion to what driver should I use?
Thanks in advance

Ofer

You might check into the AcceleratedX driver from X Inside.

Supposedly, XFree86 has a new version coming out (v3.3?) that should fix
many problems with the ATI cards including the ones with Mach32, Mach64, and
Rage II chipsets.  I am not entirely sure about this, so try checking XFree86's
website and ftp server:

ftp.XFree86.org
www.XFree86.org

Also ATI has a brief section somewhere on Linux stuff.  I found it once, but for
the life of me, I can't find it again.

1. ATI 3D PRO TURBO PC2TV & 3D XPRESSION+ PC2TV

Hi.

I'd like to hear of what kind of expieriences people have had with
these cards using XF86 or other X servers.

I'm planning to run RH Linux 4.0, and I'd like to run truecolor or
hicolor at 1280x1024. Does anyone have any comment on screen refresh
rates? Anything less than 76Hz is unusable IMO. According to ATI, the
3D XPRESSION+ PC2TV can do 90Hz, and I assume the PRO TURBO card can
do the same.

The questions are:

1) Can XF86 (or others) do 76Hz or better in 1280x1024 true/hicolor?
2) Can XF86 (or others) take advantage of 4/8MB of ram for larger
virtual desktops, pixmap/font buffers, or whatever?

Thanks in advance.
