SCSI-Controller ADAPTEC AIC7850-Fast

Post by Thomas Al » Fri, 09 Feb 1996 04:00:00

Question: Is SCSI-Controller ADAPTEC AIC7850-Fast SCSI-2 Controller
on Board compatible with LINUX 3.11 XFree86 V3.1.2
(German LINUX Distr.) ?

The complete hardware configuration under consideration is the
following:
Mainboard PCI LS-P54TS Triton/SCSI75-200 Mhz;
Socket 7;
5xISA/3xPCI;
4xIDE Pio-Mode4;
SCSI-Controller ADAPTEC AIC7850-Fast SCSI2-Controller on Board;
Producer Lucky Star;
HDD SCSI 1.080GB IBM DPES-31080 10,5ms;
Fast SCSI-2;
VGA PCI Diamond Stealth64 Video 2 MB VRAM S3-968-64Bit-video-proc.;
CD-ROM drive Pioneer DR-U124X SCSI speed: 4,4.

If you could give further advice concerning this hardware, this would be
acknowledged very much. Thanks for help.

I have a very similar configuration:
 Board:        P54TS PCI-Mainboard with SCSI AHA2940 onboard (Chipset Aic7850  !)
 Memory:       2 x 16 MB PS2-Modules
 Graphic-Card: V7 Spea Mirage P64, 2MB
 Cache:        256 k Pipelined Burst Cache
 CPU:          P120
 Periphery: 1GB SCSI-2-HD
            320 MB SCSI-1-HD
            Double-Speed-SCSI-CDROM
            1.44 MB FD
and ist does not work at all.

I don't know why, but I think that Linux doen't support the Aic7850 Cipset.

Check out ftp://ftp.ims.com/pub/Linux/aic7xxx for the latest support
for your 2940. I have an Adaptec 3940 (basically 2 2940's on one
card) which wasn't recognizable until I upgraded to 1.3.52.
Now it works fine.
