Is this cd writer compatible with Linux? Does anyone know?
I went out to linux-hardware or some other web site
and it said that Acer drives have a history of
compatibility with linux and that if a drive does have
a history of compatibility future drives most likely will
as well. However, xcdroast errored out on 2 CDs. The
error file below got spat out after a simulated write.
The cdwriter is on the same ide bus as the hard disk. I pretty
much need it this way but I wasn't doing anything while the burning
was going on and don't really need to be able to. Any idea why it didn't
work? This cd writer works like a champ on Win2K by the way - but
it would be much better to be able to burn CDs from linux.

Is this an IDE cdrw or scsi, if IDE you need scsi emulation for
cdrecord and xcdroast,which is just a frontend, to work.

1. cdrecord won't write to Acer 2010A

I'm trying to copy some tracks to the Acer. I upgraded the firmware to h.pf.

I've made cd's for redhat iso's using the drive - TAO.

I'm using xcdroast as a frontend.

Calling: /usr/lib/xcdroast-0.98/bin/xcdrwrap CDRECORD dev= "0,0,0"

It blows up after a bit:
