Linux and Sony CDU76E 4x CDROM drive??

Anyone know if there is a driver in the newer kernels or at least a patch for
the Sony CDU76E 4x CDROM drive, or at least an older one that is compatible
with it?  I haven't kept up with the latest kernels past 1.2.5, and I'd like
Linux to use this nice new toy.

Isn't this an ATAPI IDE CD-ROM drive? If it is, it has been supported for some
time now. All you have to do is read the readme.ide file from your Linux CD or
if your are just about to install, at the "boot:" prompt type:
cdrom=hdc
You also have to add this to the append line in your lilo.conf. Hope this
helps.
