thanks!

tuner
tvaudio
bttv
i2c-algo-bit
i2c-core
videodev
plus whatever modules your sound card requires. Once you have
the kernel prepared, you'll need a user-space program to
access the card (I use "xawtv").
Hope this helps.

Go here - it'll give you all the info:
http://bytesex.org/
and check out the links: xawtv and bttv
If you need more help after reading all the stuff there, feel free to ask.

This probably means you don't have a matching Mode entry in yourQuote:> I use a cable antenna and I'm located in Holland.

xawtv came preinstalled with RH 7.2Quote:> This may be a misconfiguration of xawtv rather than a kernel issue.

I will check that out!Quote:> This probably means you don't have a matching Mode entry in your

I just checked out your links as well as all the other documentation IQuote:>If you need more help after reading all the stuff there, feel free to ask.
Everything works perfectly - the tuner, the video, etc., but there's
no audio at all coming out of the PCTV card itself. The sound line
input is OK and can be controlled by the mixers, but the PCTV audio
output jack is totally dead. The machine dual boots W2K, and under
that OS there is audio from the card, so there's not a hardware issue.
Doesn't matter about the audio buttons on the toolbar, there's just no
PCTV audio output under LInux.
This is SuSE 7.3/KDE2. YAST2 properly detected the card and installed
it. The whole process was slick and easy except for the missing audio!
Thanks, Jim

As for xawtv and the machine's sound setup, that all works fine as you
describe. The problem is that under Linux the PCTV card itself
produces no audio on its output jack. Under W2K it does produce audio.
Under both OSs the video and tuner functions all work fine.
In Windows I'd start looking for conflicts, but in Linux I'm not quite
sure how I'd go about that. I'd start thinking Linux driver bug, but
it looks like this problem is not common.
Another thought... what modules do you have loaded? Using the Pinnacle
card under Linux requires more than just the bttv and audio modules;
on my system, when xawtv launches, it also loads the following kernel
modules: tuner, tvaudio, bttv, i2c-algo-bit, i2c-core, videodev.
It's possible that you're missing a kernel module that is causing
the card not to work (or, more precisely, the card is not being
properly initialized due to a missing kernel module).
Once you get the card to produce audio out of its output jack, then
you'll have to make sure your computer's audio card is working and
that you have the external input turned up with some mixer app such
as kmix or gmix.
Hope this helps.
1. problems using 'vcr' with Pinnacle PCTV Pro card
Hi,
I'm trying VCR program (vcr-1.09) on my RH7.2/Athlon 800 box equipped with
Pinnacle Studio PCTV Pro tuner card (I guess it is bt848 chip card)
I can't make it record the audio. I've read the FAQ but this does not
solve my problem.
The card's internal audio output is connected to SB Live's internal
audio input which is recognized by the mixer device as Line1. 'xawtv' is
working fine, both video and audio (although it refuses to record saying
"grabbing not supported"). When I start 'vcr', the video is captured by
the audio still goes to the 'air' and I can hear it. Strangely enough,
'aviplay' invoked on the vcr-recorded AVI reports "audio stream not
found". I'd understand hearing just silence or some noise if the input
device was mis-configured, but "no sound at all" is a bit confusing.
This happens independently of whether I put "init-sound Line1:70" into
~/.vcrrc or not, whether the mixer app is on or not (but the mizer
always shows Line1 channel as not-muted and record-enabled).
Any hints what can be wrong?
regards, Michal.
