Buslogic Flashpoint LT (BT-930) - Problem

Buslogic Flashpoint LT (BT-930) - Problem

Post by Leonard N. Zubkof » Tue, 03 Feb 1998 04:00:00

  I have a Buslogic (Mylex) Flashpoint LT (BT-930).  When my machine
  boots up with the card added is says:

  Entering Card Diags / Init, Card=00
  DIAGS: ERROR IN DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, "F1" TO CONTINUE
  DIAGS: S/G RAM FAILURE LO -> ADDRESS=67B0 ACTUAL=FFFF EXPECTED=0000
  DIAGS: S/G RAM FAILURE HI -> ADDRESS=67B2 ACTUAL=FFFF EXPECTED=0000

  I hit "F1" and it says:
  Entering Card Diags / Init, Card=00
  DIAGS: ERROR IN DIAGNOSTIC TESTING, "F1" TO CONTINUE
  DIAGS: AUTOMATION FAILURE -> ADDRESS=67B0 ACTUAL=FFFF EXPECTED=571D
  DIAGS: S/G RAM FAILURE HI -> ADDRESS=67B2 ACTUAL=FFFF EXPECTED=0000

  I hit "F1", again and it says:
  Entering Card Diags / Init, Card=00
  ERROR: ADAPTOR CONFIGURATION ERROR, "F1" TO CONTINUE
  DIAGS: AUTOMATION FAILURE -> ADDRESS=67B0 ACTUAL=FFFF EXPECTED=0000
  DIAGS: S/G RAM FAILURE HI -> ADDRESS=67B2 ACTUAL=FFFF EXPECTED=0000

  Then:
  BIOS Not initialized.

  I have no devices attached to it currently.  Is that the problem?  I
  have also fiddled with the AutoSCSI utility unsucessfully.  I have a
  Sony SDT-5000 DAT drive and internal cable on the way in the mail.

  I have Pentium II 233, 64MB of RAM, and 3.2 GB HD.  This SCSI setup is
  for Win95 and Linux (mainly Linux).  Both OSes recognize it at boot,
  my question is how to get rid of the diagnostic error.

  Thanks,
  Sidney Traynham

The FlashPoint should operate quite happily with no devices attached.  I do
that all the time in testing.  Most likely, your FlashPoint LT is simply

a replacement.

You may also need to check for the 'verbose reporting' (or something like
that in the SCSI options during kernel config. I was trying to shrink my
kernel, just for the hell of it, and turned off verbose scsi reporting (?).
After that, my LT threw fits :(
Failing that, I would agree with the above diagnosis.

You don't mention which motherboard you have, or what bios version the
Flashpoint is running.  The message you're getting has nothing to do with
an operating system - it's a message from the adapter bios attempting to
initialize and running into a problem.  In the User's Guide, this type of
error can indicate an incompatibility with certain VIA chipsets.  Also,
Mylex Tech Support has mentioned getting reports of problems with older
bios versions in new motherboards, etc.

Put the flaspoint in another PCI slot; it needs to be in a busmaste-
enabled slot (I think).  The card is most likely not defective

Do you have ROM shadowing turned on in your system BIOS, or a memory
manager like QEMM with Stealth enabled installed that is
mapping/hiding adapter ROMs into different locations?

Have you flashed the ROM BIOS of the Flashpoint?

Lastly, have you contacted Mylex tech support?

Buslogic Flashpoint LT (BT-930) - Problem

Post by Patrik Tornu » Thu, 05 Feb 1998 04:00:00

I have had similar experiences - an error message on boot-up referring
to S/G RAM failures - with the BT 930 card that I bought two weeks
ago.

I found an explanation in section 4-5 of the Installation Guide. The
card  is not compatible with certain motherboards using the
VIA cipset. I checked my manual and, indeed, I have the VIA chipset
although I could not determine the revision series number.

I have two computers and the BT 930 appears to work after transferral
to the other computer.

1. Buslogic Flashpoint LT (BT-930) linux support?

  We would like to install Linux on our new Micron dual P133 SMP box.

  However I have been unable to find any info about driver availibility
  of a Linux driver that supports the new Buslogic Flashpoint LT.

There is no Linux driver available for the FlashPoint LT and none is likely
to appear anytime soon.  Your best bet is to upgrade to a BT-946C or
BT-956C from Micron.  The BT-946C/956C are much better suited to a
multitasking operating system like Linux anyway.

  Any information on current drivers or development efforts would be
  most appreciated!

There are no development efforts presently under way.
