Weird messages from IDE driver under kernel 2.1.88

I have some puzzling boot-time messages from the kernel under 2.1.88
regarding one of my hard drives.  It seems like something is not
getting initialized right with my primary UDMA hard drive, although it
still works normally despite the messages (maybe in some sort of
compatibility mode?).  The kernel detects the drive parameters,
protocol, and IRQ fine, but then reports an "IRQ timeout" later on and
disables DMA on the drive.  As far as I know, there are no IRQ
conflicts on that line.  I didn't have any similar errors under
2.0.32, nor have I ever had any problems operating the drive.  Does
anybody know what this means or how to "fix" it?

The motherboard is a P2L97 with integrated IDE.  My only thought is
that there might be a DMA conflict, since I don't
