Replying to myself to say that when I plug the usb in the computer if
I look in /var/log/messages I see that the kernel sets up the usb
connection and recognises that the adsl line is up, detecting up/down
speeds. But I still get no internet, is this a problem because I
haven't setup the dns address? How can I do it?

If I do ifconfig -a I don't get any usb devices.

Can you swap them over (i.e. the ethernet on Linux and usb
on the other, windows, machine)?

That's because you need a driver for the usb interface. I
think it's the ATM driver. Have a look here:
http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/

No, it's not that driver, that's for the Speedtouch 330, I think
530's usb doesn't work with linux at all.

You may be right :-(
However, can't you swap the ethernet and usb connections
with the other computer, so you have the ethernet on the
linux machine?

I can. But I will get an ethernet switch anyway so no need to.
