1. Cogent EM960 PCI Ethernet Adapter

Hi
I've got a 100 MHz  Pentium with a NCR 810 PCI SCSI-Adapter and a Cogent EM960 PCI  Ethernet Adapter.
Every time I start ifconfig my computer breaks down.

command: ifconfig eth0 129.187.112.17 broadcast 129.187.112.255 netmask 255.255.255.0
message: eth0: Setup frame timed out status fc300000

Does anybody has got an idea what this means and how to get the adapter run on my computer?
