Sound problems with OPTi 82C930

Hi everybody!

I can't my HOT-235 sound card (with OPTi 82C930 chip) to work with Linux
kernel 2.0.34. It is supposed to be compatible with Windows Sound System,
Soundblaster Pro, AdLib, MPU-401, OPL-3 etc..

Does anyone have a clue what to do? I've tried the OSS/Linux trial package
and that works fine but I want the driver to be compiled with the kernel.

Thanks
/Hans

Hi Hans,

I got a HOT-247 (PnP with OPTi 82C933) and did not succeed in getting
this card into the Linux kernel, just as you. After spending hours
having no success I finally decided to spend 20 US$ to OSS and
therefore having my sound work. Sorry that I do not have any better
recommendation

Regards

I've found it myself!

I now use the OSS/Free package (found at
http://www.physics.mun.ca/~jwoodfd/files/ossfree38s6-linux20x.tar.gz ) and
it works just fine !

I installed the Rawhide release this week, and finally the HOT-247 card
works again.  It worked fine wtih the 2.0.36 kernel, but broke when I went
to 2.2.3.  With the full Rawhide release, I had no problems with the
card.  Sndconfig automatically configured it and played the samples.

1. Sound Config OPTi 82C930

I am trying to configure the new 2.2.3 kernel to use the OPTi 82C930
soundcard. I am using the MAD16 driver. I can now play CD's though my CD
player using the KDE CD player but I am unable to play MP3 or WAV properly.
I am getting an error saying IRQ/DRQ conflict. How can I figure out what are
the correct values for DMA and IRQ for this card.
Thanks
karthick
