Linux cannot boot on MSI 694D PRO-AIR Board

Post by Joern Koerne » Fri, 16 Feb 2001 02:01:40

Hi everyone,

Im trying to install RedHad(or any other) Linux on a MSI 694D PRO-AIR Board
(With Promise 20265 ATA100 Controller on board and RAID BIOS) but every
Kernel I tried (2.2.16 and up to 2.4.1) hangs just after detecting the IDE
buses with no comment.

The latest 2.4.1 Kernel detects the VIA IDE, the Promise IDE and right after
that it hangs. ;-((

Ive updated everything to the newest bios - with no success and there is
really nothing special on this board.
No Cards or whatever...

Has anybody success with installing Linux ??? What Im doing wrong ???

Any idea ?  I really need help !

Thanks

Where is your CD-ROM drive?  Is it sharing a controller with something else,
or is it on its own?  If possible, put the CD drive on it's own controller
cable, rather than having it as a master to or a slave of another drive;
quite a few configs have a problem if the CD is sharing cable & controller
port with an HD at the point you mention, but mostly work okay under
Windows.

Well the CD-ROM is connected as the only device on the VIA-IDE bus as
primary master. The HDDs are on the VIA. But it doesnt matter where I
connect them. The result is the same - even if I boot from floppy with only
one HDD on promise or via with no CD-ROM connected.

Are there any kernel options that give more verbose information?
