I have a audio DAT player and I would like to do direct stereo digital
recording and playback to/from my hard drive.

The DIGITAL ONLY CardD from Digital Audio Labs is a standalone ISA board th=
at
allows those features. But is it Linux compatible ? or does exist such linu=
x
compatible sound cards ?

I have another brand (adb multiwav).  both cards do the same thing.

neither is [yet] supported under linux.  I wish I had the time to write one
for my card, though.  (btw, the adb was a bit cheaper than the cardD and did
the same thing, really).
