Adjusting screen heights under X-Window

Adjusting screen heights under X-Window

Post by Nik Ahmad Fah » Sun, 14 Jul 1996 04:00:00

Hi all,

I'm a newbie in Linux ... 2 weeks old to be exact. I got myself a system
running RedHat Linux 3.0.3 with 2.0 kernel. My problem is when I run
startx, the screen's top/bottom borders are too high/low above/below
the viewing level. What I means is that I can't see what's on top and
on the bottom of the screen. Adjusting the vertical adjustment buttons
doesn't help.

I'm using just an old Tatung CM14SBM monitor with ATI Mach64 PCI card
with 2MB RAM.

Is there a software or a settings that need to changedto rectify this?

TIA.

Try xvidtuen - available with X11R6. You can adjust the various aspects
of your display and then change the lines in your XF86Config file.

1. adjust the width/height of view area under XFree86 3.3.3.1

Having setup XFree86 via xf86config and execute 'startx', I found that
the screen in my 17" monitor is a little bit shrinking. I know I can
expand the view area by adjusting the control panel under the monitor.
But I also need to work under win98 whose view area is perfectly matched
to the screen, so I don't want to change the settings for win98. How can
I adjust the width/height of view area under XFree86 through the
configuration for xf86config? Thanks!
