SCSI Tape in slackware - newbie needs help

Post by Todd Wolf » Sat, 03 Jan 1998 04:00:00

Trying to get Slackware up and running, installation went fine and boots
fine. I've got an old Wangtek 1/2 inch SCSI Tape that I want to use but I
don't know how to get the OS to recognize it. I assume I should use the
device /dev/st0 on my system but what do I do with it then and how do I
access it?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

cd / ; tar -cvvpf /dev/st0 *
this command should work as long as your SCSI card is setup.

The device (if installed correctly) should show up during the boot
process (see the output of "dmesg"), but you'll have to recompile
a kernel with support for SCSI tape drives to be able to use it.
