Very Computer

Hi, I have an IBM Aptiva M71 with an Mwave adapter card running
 slackware Linux 3.0, and am having major problems getting Linux to
 recognize the modem for use with outgoing PPP/SLIP connections to my
 internet service provider.  The modem appears not to be responding to
 commands sent to it by dip, minicom, or echo statments, such as:

        echo -e ATS0=0\&W\&W1DT5551234\r>/dev/cua0

I have checked, and there is no conflict between COM1 and COM2, and the
 mouse.  Do Mwave cards need to be initialized or handled differently?

  Can anyone offer any help with this?

from what i've read, and from what i've tried in my M61 w/the mwave card,
all you're gonna get is some SB emulation... i tried FASTCFG, etc., with
no joy... my response? got a cheap 14.4 internal modem, configured it for
COM4 and use that under linux... want some more fun? try getting WIN95 to
recognize an internal modem configured as COM4 (on the Aptiva)!
