Please help me with my microphone.

I am running RH5.0, an upgrade from 4.1 some time back. With 4.1 I used the
4front oss driver for sound and all was well. After the upgrade, and much
gnashing of teeth over the past year or so, the microphone does not work.
I have tried the 4front package update to no avail - their analyst quit
answering my emails after the 4th pass. Machine is an NEC P166 with 64Mb
and has the built in OPTi82C930 sound chip.

When I say the microphone does not work, I mean that its output is always
directed back to the speakers, not to the mixer port it should be directed
to. What you say into the mike is sent out the speakers immediately. One
cannot record because the mike output goes the wrong place. Seems like
a lib problem but after much cleanup and checking I have been unable to find
anything there. I have demonstrated this facet with an assortment of mixers.

Windoze originally treated this soundcard as a SB Pro and reporte the
following info on it:
0220-022F
0320-0321
0388-038F
0530-0537
IRQ 5,9
DMA0,3
Under windoze, the card was always finnicky to get working. The windoze
discovery process had to be iterated with some deliberate discover then
delete steps which only Bill could explain. Now the old windoze package,
which still boots, much to my surprise, can no longer recognize or drive
the card. Since everything but the mike works in linux, I conclude this
is an artifact of windoze, not the hardware.

Notwithstanding that the sound card works, there is no indication on
bootup that the sound card is being discovered.

1. Sound problems with OPTi 82C930

Hi everybody!

I can't my HOT-235 sound card (with OPTi 82C930 chip) to work with Linux
kernel 2.0.34. It is supposed to be compatible with Windows Sound System,
Soundblaster Pro, AdLib, MPU-401, OPL-3 etc..

Does anyone have a clue what to do? I've tried the OSS/Linux trial package
and that works fine but I want the driver to be compiled with the kernel.

Thanks
/Hans
