How to auto-insert aic7xxx module?

Post by Jim Hoo » Mon, 17 Apr 2000 04:00:00

To revive my old SyQuest SyJet for backups, I installed an Adaptec
PCI SCSI card (AHA-2930U) into my RH 6.2 box.  When I booted it up,
kudzu auto-detected the card and inserted the following line into
conf.modules:

alias scsi_hostadapter aic7xxx

When I try to mount it though, I receive the following:

#mount -t vfat /dev/sda1 /mnt/syjet/
mount: /dev/sda1 is not a valid block device

However, if I manually load the module (with "modprobe aic7xxx") I can
mount it successfully.  Is there something I can do to avoid the manual
load?  Additional information is available below.

Thanks a bunch!

Cheers,
Jim

Additional Info:
----------------

A. The following appears in the syslog at boot.  The host adapter was
not detected?

Apr 16 00:48:53 gw kernel: scsi : 0 hosts.
Apr 16 00:48:53 gw kernel: scsi : detected total.

B.  lsmod after modprobe'ing aic7xxx:

# lsmod

How to auto-insert aic7xxx module?

Post by jurgyma » Wed, 02 Aug 2000 04:00:00

the easy way:

echo 'modprobe aic7xxx' >>/etc/rc.d/rc.local

a little harder way:

mkinitrd --with=aic7xxx /boot/initrd-<KERNEL-VERSION>.img

ADD to /etc/lilo, your default kernel section:
  initrd=/boot/initrd-<KERNEL-VERSION>.img
.

good luck.

1. How to Auto Insert USB module?

Dear sir

I am using a Creative Web3 Cam and have installed a usb driver ov511.o.
However, I need to use the command "insmod ov511.o" to activate it. I
have tried to use xconfig to set "y" instead of "m" and then build
kernel again but cannot work :-(. Is there any place in Linux can
automatically run some commands during startup (such as AUTOEXEC.BAT in
DOS) ?

Please give me some advices on this case.

Thanks a lot

Alan Po
