request FAQ - can't mount cdu31a

Don't want to waste anyones time with a question that has certainly been
asked many times... I am having trouble mounting my CDU31A.  Can someone
send me a FAQ if one exists please (my error message is along the lines of
iso9660 not supported by kernel... I'm sure I skipped over something
important in the docs but I don't see anything about it.)  Thanks.

: iso9660 not supported by kernel... I'm sure I skipped over something
   ^^^

It looks like you didnt compile this into the kernel. It is
an option in the 'make config' stage.

I use : mount -r -t iso9660 /dev/cdu31a /cdrom

just in case ..

I have a sony cdu31a cdrom that I just can't seem to get to work.  It
works fine under dos.  Recompiled to 1.2.8, tried to add
append=cdu31a=0x340,0 to lilo.conf, ran lilo and it reports a syntax error
on that line.  There is no visible sign of the driver loading durring boot
ANY ideas would be helpfull
