EPSON Stylus Color 400 drivers

Post by Jaso » Wed, 28 Apr 1999 04:00:00

Has anyone found a consistent driver solution for this type of printer?
Here are the various roadblocks/successes I've had with this printer
under kernel 2.0.36, RH5.2, Ghostscript 4.3, APS script 5.0:

1) Won't print html pages correctly (Netscape).  Far as I can tell, it
prints the graphics/text in a manner determined by the order of the html
scripts.  Won't print in color.
2) Prints B/W in Corel WP 8.0 using the pass-thru-postscript.  Won't
print in color.  Have tried all available drivers, including those found
at the Corel website.
3) Prints B/W in StarOffice 5.0 using Epson Postscript CARD Postscript.
Won't print in color.
4) Does print correctly in GIMP, which comes with it's own support for
Epson Stylus Color 400 printers.  (woo hoo!)

My printcap file (config'd by APS) includes options for color output,
but it appears that all output to lpr is ignoring this request, and
printing only in Postscript B/W.  I've included copies of my current and
original /etc/printcap files if someone could check them out.

Thanks,

Jason :)

Ghostscript 4.3 is mainly of historical interest.  The current version
is 5.50; there is an i386 RPM to be had at http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

apsfilter 5.0 should support the stylus 400 just fine, given a recent
version of gs to work with.

Nothing in there jumped out at me; it's the contents of all the if=foo
filter files that really matter.  As I said, apsfilter should set them
up properly.

Try printing with a newer gs, and perhaps after rerunning the

1. EPSON Stylus Color 400 Drivers

Hi.  I am new to this group, and to Linux.  I am lowest of the low, vilest of
the vile- worst than a script kiddie- I actually use Windows 98 (shoot me
please).  I am intent on getting rid of it, but I know very little about Linux
(read: nothing).  I intend to take courses, but that can't do everything.  But,
needless to say, I am in no shape to write drivers for my printer.  Has anyone
else?  This is, as written in the subject, an EPSON Stylus Color 400, connected
to a parallel port.  I intend on buying Corel Linux (for simplicity's sake),
and can't find any mention of my printer in their "supported hardware" Acrobat
file.  So if anyone could give me a hand, any help would be appreciated.
