TGUI 9660/9680 X installation -- need help!!!

Post by ser.. » Wed, 13 Nov 1996 04:00:00

Hello experienced folks,

I have the Video-57P Linear Accelerator for PCI V1.31.19 2MB
with TGUI 9660/9680 chipset.

Does anybody know what driver will work with this card, if any:(
because I found in the Trident.config file a paragraph that says that
this card (TGUI 9660/9680) is not currently supported by this release
of X86 (I have the last one, I guess 3.something:))

So, any help would be very appreciated, thanks.

Sergey Gerasimov.

Do you have XFree86 version 3.1.2 or version 3.2.  If it is 3.1.2, you *need*
to upgrade to 3.2 in order to make your video card work.

XFree86 3.2 has the support for these cards though no accelerated
support yet so you'll have to use the SVGA server.  Also, there is a
variation of the card called Cyper which SuperProbe does not properly
recognize.  This is documented in the README.trident file.

Luck,
Greg

1. TGUI 9440/9660/9680 and XFree/SVGATextMode support

I wrote a patch to support Trident TGUI 9440/9660/9680 with
SVGATextMode. I have also sent it to the author of SVGATextMode, of course.
If you are interested, you can get it from

ftp://ftp.Linuz.sns.it/pub/Linux/ext-pack/tgui/SVGATextMode-diff

please note that is is BETA code, and that you will need to install
it with 'patch -p0' on top of SVGATextMode-1.4 sources.

Let me know if it works and/or if you have problems!

I also wrote a small patch for XF86_SVGA server of XFree 3.2
that fixes the TGUI clockchip programming code (it has a _HORRIBLE_ bug)
you can get it from the same place:

ftp://ftp.Linuz.sns.it/pub/Linux/ext-pack/tgui/xserver-diff

it is a patch against the X32lkit.tgz (LinkKit) package,
and it is of course BETA (or perhaps ALPHA ?) too.

Let me know if it works and/or if you have problems, too.
