I recently upgraded my motherboard to a PCI AMD 486-120 (AMI BIOS) and my
video card to a PCI ET4000. All other hardware remained unchanged. I use
Slackware 1.3.0, with PCI support in the kernel. The vterms are fine, and
there is no visible distortions. Unfortunately, MakeCard, mkxconfig, and
Superprobe can't detect the card (just keep getting NoCard with no nonzero
settings). X hangs the system when started, quite naturally. However,
when I switch out the new card for my old ISA ET4000, MakeCard et al.
cannot detect it, either. Starting X with my old Xconfig (configured for
the old card) crashes and says that no screens are found. I've fiddled
with the BIOS, one setting in particular that gives PCI or ISA VGA
options. Under no combinations can my cards be detected or will X run.
When I plug in a DOS hard drive, all its apps work fine under both cards.
What am I missing a necessary link change, or something?
