Using WangDAT 1300 with Linux (or other OS)

Post by Michael J C Fir » Wed, 05 Jul 1995 04:00:00

I have recently obtained one of these DAT drives, and when using it with Linux
the system reports the tape as being full when only around 300MB has been written
to the tape. On looking inside the drive the tape has only spooled the expected
sixth of the way through the tape.
Could someone please advise on this, and hopefully explain the meanings of the
dip switches in the block on this drive, and the effect of JP1.
In case any Linux gurus read this, yes I have done 'mt setblk 0'.

Thanks

Michael

1. Using WangDAT 1300 with Linux

I have just obtained a WangDAT 1300 drive. When booting FreeBSD (yeuch) the
system says that the WD 1300 is a known rougue, then says something about
setting the density. The result of all this is that under FreeBSD I can read
a tape written on a Sun DAT drive.
What parameters should I give to the 'mt' command to get Linux to be able to
read this tape (and write tapes using the full capacity of the drive).
