PS/2 Mouse Problem

PS/2 Mouse Problem

Post by blizzar » Sat, 02 Jan 1999 04:00:00

Hi,

I need help using my mouse in Linux.  On my old Pentium 100 machine I
had a serial mouse connected to a serial port or com1.  When I set up
Linux, I set up the device to point to /dev/cua0 (for com1).  This
worked - I was able to get into Linux and use X windows and the mouse
worked.

I've since upgraded to a Pentium II 350 with a BX6 motherboard.  I have
connected up a PS/2 mouse and it works fine in windows 98.  It is on IRQ
12.  However, when I go into Linux and into X windows - the mouse
doesn't move.  It is not connected to com1 (IRQ3) anymore.

So is that the problem???   How do I get Linux to work with a PS/2 mouse
on IRQ12???  I guess I have to assign the /dev/mouse device to some
other /dev!!!

Could someone please help???

Thanks!!!!!!

Have you got PS2 mouse support compiled in, or as a module?
Maybe you need to insmod it?

The device is /dev/psaux
as root type:
rm /dev/mouse
ln -s /dev/psaux /dev/mouse

You might have to change some settings... but I'm not sure of which ones..

1. ps/2 mouse problem under XFree86 (mouse is busy)

I had a similar problem when I installed Redhat 3.0.3 on my system.
During installation I selected the PS/2 mouse but when I ran X the
pointer would jump to the top of the screen and not respond correctly to
the mouse. When I checked XF86Config the mouse was set to 'Microsoft'
even though I am 100% sure that I selected PS/2 during installation. I
changed it to PS/2 manually and it has worked fine since. Check to make
sure that the mouse is set to PS/2 even if this is what you selected
during installation. This should be easily located in the pointer
section of your XF86Config file.

Good Luck
