my mouse cursor disappeared??

my mouse cursor disappeared??

Post by time travelle » Tue, 10 Oct 2000 04:00:00

Sometime between my installation of Linux and a week or so ago, my mouse
cursor disappeared. Used setup to try and reconfigure, and the autoprobe
finds it and reports back as MS compatible, but the cursor just doesn't show
up.
Also when I StartX, the cursor is there, but not response to mouse movement.
Do X and the terminal interface have separate access to mouse?

thanks

X use different mouse drivers than the virtual terminal.
The virtual terminal (the text mode in linux) use normally the gpm
driver.
Sometime (in my computer is 50%) the gpm is incompatible with the X
driver.
Thus try to disinstall gpm ('/etc/init.d/gpm stop' or
'/etc/rc.d/init.d/gpm stop'
or ...)

1. Mouse cursor disappears on AIXwindows desktop

I am connected to an RS/6000 from a DECstation 3100 running DECwindonws.
I can start up xdt on the IBM, but whenever the mouse cursor moves onto
the desktop surface (unless I keep a mouse button pressed) it becomes
invisible. What can I do to prevent this?

Also, I get a few warning messages which don't seem to be very important,
but I'd be interested in finding out why I get them. I regularly get messages
like

X Toolkit Warning: Cannot convert string "Rom10" to type fontlib

and when I run the "info" program, although it seems to work fine, I
regularly get a message like

X Toolkit Warning: Windows server confused

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
