HELP! Unable to mount PRO AUDIO 16/PLEXTOR CDROM

Post by David Fais » Mon, 21 Aug 1995 04:00:00

I'm attempting to install LINUX on a 386 from the March 1995 LINUX
developers Resource CD from InfoMagic.  My CD is a PLEXTOR hooked up
to a Pro Audio Spectrum 16 sound card.

Everything works fine up to the point that LINUX attempts to mount the
CDROM.  During startup LINUX detects my drive just fine and displays
the following...

SCSI: 1 host detected
Model: DM-XX28
Rev: 3.08
Vendor: Plextor
scsi0: Pro-Audio Spectrum 16 SCSI

During the install process, the last prompt I get is for which SCSI
drive to mount; then the drive light on the CD comes on/stays on,
it sleeps for awhile, then comes back with the message:

scsi0: Aborting due to timeout
Pid 12
scsi 0
id 2
lun 0
0x08 00 00 10 01 00
NCR5380s: Co-routine isn't running
scsi0: Req not asserted
phase unknown

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,

David,
I also had trouble mounting my PAS16 SCSI CD-Rom, and got similar errors.
I never figured out why, but did solve the problem by moving the PAS16 SCSI to
IRQ 15.  I give lilo or loadlin the extra parameter 'pas16=0x388,15' and then
things work.  My guess is we were having problems with conflicting IRQs
between the SCSI and sound portions of the PAS16.
    Hope that helps....

1. CDROM and MediaVision Pro Audio Spectrum 16

The problem is this. I want to use workman or backbone to play
CD's. The only problem is that my CDROM will not work. In the boot up the
CDROM is recognized with the Pro Audio Spectrum 16 and then it scan for
CDROMS need the end of boot and says "no CDROM found". When I try to run
workman in X, and then leave X, there is and error message that says
"/dev/cdrom: no such device". I am running the latest and greatest from
InfoMagic(august 1995). If anyone has any clues to what is going on please
