1. Answering my own modem question--Creative modems ARE winmodems!
I recently discovered that Creative Labs' Modem Blaster modems are in fact
WinModems afterall; they simply don't readily document that fact. (It
doesn't come up among the general population.) So, until the day comes that
Wine or another Windows emulator can emulate drivers, IRQs, and the lot, my
modem is only useful to one of my computer's two brains. I did find a
place, however, to look and see what modems will work, so I won't waste any
money or time. Check out http://www.linux.com/hardware/ for a list of what
Linux does or doesn't support. As a rule of thumb, most PCI modems are
winmodems, and be wary perhaps of any ISA modem with a PCI version on the
market that has all the same features. External modems, however, tend to be
very compatable. (And pricy.)
pretty positive that it's not a >winmodem. Unfortunately, I'm not ready for
an investment of grand perportions until I get my new windows >machine and I
can have Linux on a machine by itself.
The Zoom 2919 Dual Mode internal modem is on the list of compatables. I'm
not sure if that's the same as the one you just listed, however.
if you are interested. Can you please do >the same?
This message was cross-posted to the newsgroups where I first posted my
inquiry.
